Crockenhill Scout among the first in the World to meet the new Chief Scout - Bear Grylls.
Early on Wednesday morning Mark, the Scout Leader, drove Samuel, one of our Scouts, and Deanna, an Explorer Scout, nearly a hundred miles to a clandestine location where we were honoured to represent the Group, District and County at an activity day & media session with the prospective new Chief Scout – Bear Grylls.
Says Deanna, an Explorer Scout with the Spitfire Unit who are based in Hextable: “It was great to meet Bear Grylls. He has some fantastic ideas to make Scouting even more exciting and fun.”
Bear Grylls also took some time out to show Samuel and the other Scouts his fire lighting tips and tricks, and then they all sat round and cooked over the fire.
Thankfully for Samuel, he had to eat nothing worse than a toasted marshmallow, rather than roast rattlesnake which is the new Chief Scout’s usual fare. “Some things are best left to the experts,” he diplomatically suggested.
Following the announcement of Bear’s succession as the 10th Chief Scout, they both took part in an interview broadcast live on Radio
