Pioneering Camp
27th March 2011
Pioneering is the art of using ropes and wooden spars to create a structure.
Over the past few years we have constructed an aerial runway, a go-kart and a sky-saw.
This year, we started our camp with a trip to Pirate’s Cove, Bluewater
where we had a round of Adventure Golf and then went on the High-Ropes.
Back at camp, we made a 2m high tripod to support a 5m flagpole.
On the following day, we built a bridge
without using any ropes (or nails).
It even supported all of the Scouts without collapsing !!
On Troop Night the following week, I was able to present the Scouts with their Pioneer activity badge,
and let them know that they had now started on their Adventure Challenge award.
